Visit La Velarca

Designed in 1959 by the famous BBPR studio - the same architects of Velasca Tower in Milan - the boat represents a fusion of modernist design and traditional craftsmanship. It was originally imagined by Fiammetta and Emilio Norsa as a place to welcome their friends and acquaintances who frequented their Milanese home, including famous faces of Italian culture such as Riccardo Sambonet, Gio Ponti, Gillo Dorfles, Eugenio Montale, Lucio Fontana, Umberto Eco and Cesare Musatti.

In 2011, Aldo and Maria Luisa Norsa, son and daughter-in-law of Fiammetta and Emilio, donated La Velarca to the FAI - a non-profit foundation that protects and promotes Italy's heritage. Since then, the boat has undergone a long restoration period, returned to its original mooring, and been opened to the public.

A visit to the Velarca is something truly magical. A chance to step back in time, where every object and detail remains just as it was, like the original sheets embroidered with the boat’s logo or the elegant tea service. It’s like the boat has been waiting, perfectly preserved, to tell its story.
